Say No to Plastic

Say No to Plastic

Plastic is readily available and inexpensive. Not surprisingly, most of the manufacturing and packaging of consumer goods is based around or using plastic. But is this where many of the benefits end? Not only is plastic is harmful to the environment to manufacture and arrange, but it also damages your health and takes an incredibly long time to degrade in the natural environment. Many of these plastics also find their way into numerous animals’ food chains, some of which we end up consuming.

At this time, plastic is a dangerous threat to our environment. People consume more plastic than ever, leading to more plastic waste, manufacturing demand, and a more toxic place for wildlife.

Why Should You Say No to Plastic?

Why Should You Say No to Plastic?

Most plastics are made from petrochemicals, which are chemicals derived from oil. To make plastics, the oil must be drilled, pumped, and transported to where it is needed for manufacturing. This process alone is severely harmful to the environment. When oil drilling begins on a new site, countless species lose their habitat and freshwater sources.

Once the oil is pumped out of an underground oil field, it must be transported. This is done in several ways. Sometimes it’s put in barrels and shipped across oceans in ships that can leak or spill. Other times, it is pumped into giant pipelines throughout nations. Pipelines leak and poison groundwater and sometimes encroach on sovereign native land. Large companies that need plastic don’t care about any of this unless supply stagnates and demand levels off or increases.

Plastic Bags

Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are one of the utmost dangerous ways of using plastic in packaging. Approximately 500,000,000,000 plastic water bottles are manufactured annually, with about one million sold every minute of every day. This leads to an incredible amount of plastic waste, with a small percentage of bottles ever being recycled.

This plastic gets dumped in our oceans faster than it breaks down. About 8 million tonnes of new plastic waste enter our planet’s water annually. By 2050, many researchers estimate that antibiotic fish in our oceans will be an entire plastic bag.

Even when plastics are designed to be recyclable, they rarely contribute to recycling programs. Most people see almost all plastic packaging as just “garbage” and treat it as such, throwing it away. This causes the plastic to fill landfills and be dumped into the oceans. Some of these are subsequently broken down to some extent, consumed as microplastics by some small fish, and deposited in increasing quantities by the organisms that eat them. This poses a significant problem of plastic accumulation in the gut of many wildlife species, including fish, birds and even mammals.

Replace Plastic Bags

Other larger first-world nations are replaced by some developing countries without health and environmental protection. This allows them to dump the plastic into the ocean and burn it. When plastics are burned, those toxic, poisonous and even deadly chemicals are released into our atmosphere. Smoke from burning plastics is heavily linked to respiratory illness and several types of cancer and can cause reproductive damage.

Even without combustion, many plastics are now associated with adverse health effects in adults. You can see this in the potential reproductive harms and plastics-related cancers in the form of PFOA and BPA. These are primarily found in cheaper plastics sourced from nations whose manufacturing industries do not have significant health and safety precautions.

Why Saying No to Plastic Can Benefit Your Health & The Environment?

Why Saying No to Plastic Can Benefit Your Health & The Environment?

Saying no to plastic has become popular, but not in the same way that fads are popular. Many people are wakening up to the reality of our climate crisis and the overwhelming contribution of plastic waste to that crisis. These people then make a conscious choice to try to eliminate most, if not all, plastic from their daily lives. This can have incredible effects on your health, besides the health of the planet.

Rajkotupdates.News: Pm Modi India Happy To Join Single Use Plastic – When you say no to plastic, you are deciding to eliminate many potentially harmful chemicals from your life. Shockingly, many of these chemicals can be found on the packaging of your favourite food and beverage products. By cutting back on plastic, you reduce the chances that those chemicals will affect your health later on adversely.

Another benefit is that by reducing demand, you are sending a clear message to companies that still support the use of plastic that you do not support them. This may not seem like much in person, but it will come into action when thousands and even millions of people stand up for what is right.

Conclusion

We, most of the people of the world are aware of the ill effects of plastic and its pollution. But we try to ignore it and we find ignorance a total bliss. Just we have to accept that each and every one of us is countable for the deaths of the marine animals that are no longer breathing under the oceans. Therefore, we should outgrow to be responsible for the effects and we should try to protect what is left of the mother nature. One can just move on from plastic to various other alternatives that are now easily available to us.
